Key features

  • 1000W fan-assisted heated drying pod
  • Holds up to 12 hangers / 10kg
  • Heats air to around 70C
  • 3-hour timer with automatic shut-off
  • 146cm high, 62cm diameter
  • Enclosed - releases less moisture into the room

Our verdict

The drying pod is a different machine to everything else on this page. Instead of warm bars it is a fan heater inside a zipped fabric tower, pushing air up to 70C around up to 12 items on hangers (10kg). Shirts and work clothes come out in an hour or two rather than overnight, and because the hot air is enclosed, far less moisture escapes into the room than from an open airer. The cost is wattage: 1000W, against 300W for a tiered airer. A 90-minute run costs about 39p at 26.32p per kWh - cheaper than a condenser tumble dryer cycle, but more per hour than any tiered model here, so it only makes sense if you genuinely finish quickly. It stands 146cm high with a 62cm diameter, has a 3-hour timer and is not suited to flat items such as duvet covers.

Pros

  • ✓Dries shirts and light items in 1-2 hours
  • ✓Keeps most of the moisture inside the pod
  • ✓Timer with automatic shut-off
  • ✓Takes up little floor area for its capacity

Cons

  • ✗1000W - by far the highest running cost per hour here
  • ✗Hanger-based, so poor for towels, bedding and flat-dry knitwear
  • ✗Tall and awkward to store
  • ✗Fan noise is noticeable in a quiet room
