Our verdict

The Dry:Soon Deluxe is the heated airer most UK reviewers end up recommending, and the specification explains why. Lakeland quotes 300W, 21 metres of drying space across 36 heated bars and a 15kg load limit, which is enough for a full washing machine load plus the overflow. The feature that separates it from the cheaper 3-tier crowd is the built-in 1-12 hour digital timer: set it for six hours overnight on a cheap-rate tariff and the airer switches itself off. The tiers fold independently, so you can run just one side for a half load, and the whole thing collapses to around 8cm deep - genuinely slim enough to slide behind a door. The catch is that the cover is sold separately and is close to essential; without it drying times stretch and more moisture goes into the room. At 300W a six-hour run costs about 47p at 26.32p per kWh, and with the cover fitted most loads are done in four to five hours.

Pros

  • ✓Timer is built in, not an optional extra
  • ✓Tiers fold independently for small loads
  • ✓Folds flatter than almost anything else at this size
  • ✓Widely recommended and well supported for spares
  • ✓Aluminium frame feels solid in use

Cons

  • ✗Cover is sold separately and you really want one
  • ✗The most expensive tiered airer in our line-up
  • ✗Some owners report the plastic clips feel flimsy
  • ✗Bulky items such as jeans and towels still take 10-12 hours uncovered
