Best Heated Clothes Airers UK 2026: 8 Compared

Eight heated airers compared on wattage, drying space, tiers, cover, timer, folded size, weight and cost per drying session - costed at the Ofgem rate of 26.32p per kWh.

A heated clothes airer is the cheapest practical way to dry washing indoors in a British winter. A typical 300W model costs around 47p for a six-hour run at the Ofgem average unit rate of 26.32p per kWh, against roughly 66p to £1.18 a cycle for a vented or condenser tumble dryer. Over a winter of five loads a week, that difference adds up.

The catch is moisture. Every litre of water in your washing has to go somewhere, and in a poorly ventilated flat it goes onto the windows and then into the walls. That is why we rate ventilation, covers and pairing with a dehumidifier as part of the buying decision rather than an afterthought - and why our comparison below includes the figures that actually matter: wattage, metres of drying space, number of tiers, whether a cover and timer are included, folded depth, weight and the cost of a drying session.

Running costs on this page were updated on 1 October 2026 for the current price cap period.
