If you want reliable cooling without spending £400+, the VonHaus 9000 BTU is the best budget option we’ve tested. At around £260, it’s less than half the price of the Meaco and De’Longhi units, and it genuinely cools a room. The 9,000 BTU output handles rooms up to 18m² — a decent double bedroom or small living room. It comes with a dual-compatibility window kit, remote control, 24-hour timer and four modes including sleep. The compromises are predictable: it’s noisier (52–65 dB), the build quality is functional rather than premium, and there’s no smart app. But it works, it’s well-reviewed, and it’s affordable. For a first air conditioner or a spare room, it’s excellent value.
